>> Jones County High School Senior Allie Chambers earned a $1,000 Walter Harrison Scholarship. She competed against 73 other students across the state receiving one of seven scholarships.

The scholarship is awarded based on  academics and financial need. This fall, Allie will attend the University of Georgia and major in pre-medicine and political science/government and minor in spanish. "I would very much like to become a pediatrician, but I am also interested in politics and foreign language," states Allie. She was named the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce student of the year and the 2005 STAR Student of Middle Georgia.

Shaneka Peck can pack her suitcase for the Washington Youth Tour June 16 - 23! Peck, a Jones County High School senior, will represent Tri-County EMC on this year's trip. She will join over 1,400 other students from across the U.S. for one incredible week of touring our nation's seat of government, famous  sites and meet with state and national leaders.

The tour begins in Atlanta where the teen delegates will explore government on a local level. They will visit the Governor's Mansion and CNN studios, meet with legislative representatives, participate in leadership activities and learn about Georgias electric cooperative industry at the Georgia Electric Membership headquarters.

Benjamin "Ben" Sexton can look ahead  to Georgias Cooperative Youth Conference -- a youth leadership experience. On July 18 - 20, Ben will join other Georgia students at the FFA Camp in Covington to discover the variety of co-ops that exist and learn how they function. Ben will meet  leaders from cooperatives such as the Farm Credit System, Gold Kist and Staplecotn. The conference also enhances leadership skills through teambuilding exercises. Recreational activities include horseback riding, canoeing and swimming.
