Tri-County EMC Warns Members of Possible Scam

Tri-County EMC representatives are issuing a warning to the cooperative's members regarding a possible meter-reading scam. The alert follows a recent report of someone in an unmarked, white pickup truck arriving at a member's home asking to read the meter. The individual asked the member a few questions and eventually drove off in the truck without reading the meter.

Although meters are normally read remotely, there will be times when Tri-County EMC employees are in the field to check and read members' meters. All Tri-County employees will be in uniform, have an ID badge available, and arrive in a marked Tri-County EMC vehicle.

If someone comes to your property for any reason claiming to be a Tri-County employee, ask to see their employee ID, particularly if you do not have an appointment with them. If you ever receive any suspicious requests regarding your Tri-County EMC service, please contact us at 1.866.254.8100.
