If you are looking for a New Year’s Resolution that you can keep, add a home electrical safety check to your list. Electrical failures and malfunctions are the most common cause of electrical fires. These items below can be easily checked to help you spot potential hazards in your home.
ELECTRICAL OUTLETS:
As outlets age, so do the wires behind them. Any loose, damaged or warm to the touch outlets should be checked by an electrician.
OVERLOADED CORDS AND OUTLETS:
Extension cords are not a long-term solution. If you find yourself using extension cords or overloading your outlets often, have a licensed electrician install new outlets.
OLD APPLIANCES:
Check the wiring on any older appliances to determine if it’s time to upgrade or replace them.
ELECTRICAL WIRING:
Flickering lights and frequently tripped breakers are warning signs that wiring isn’t working properly. If you live in an older home, it may be time to have your wiring checked by a licensed electrician.
