Ways to Monitor Your Energy Usage

Did you know that your HVAC unit uses more energy than any other appliance in your home? And when temperatures top out in the mid to upper 90s on hot summer days, that HVAC unit begins to run more and more, driving up your daily energy usage.
“The first step to saving energy is monitoring your energy usage,” said Jonathan Stewart, Energy Services Representative. “If you know the average amount of energy your home uses each day, it’s easier to determine what appliances are using the most energy and to know when there is a problem.” (91149001)
By logging on to the myTCEMC app or your member portal, you can see a graph showing your daily energy usage and have the capability to overlay weather data to see the impact that these hot summer days may have on your home’s usage.
Being aware of your usage also takes the surprise out of your energy bill. “In addition to seeing your daily usage, you can also set up alerts on your account to let you know when you have used a certain threshold of energy for the month,” said Stewart. Alerts can be sent via text message, email or push notification.
