No Sweat Load Management Operating Today
Posted on Jul 30, 2011 at 12:00 AM
Because of extreme heat covering the southeast, Tri-County EMC will operate our No Sweat load management program today, Saturday, July 30. If the heat persists without significant rainfall, we foresee having to operate the system on Sunday, July 31, as well.
In the past, Tri-County has only operated our No Sweat load management program on weekdays from June 1 to September 30. The system helps reduce the impact of central air-conditioning on our peak demand. By reducing the cooperative’s peak demand on hot summer days, we directly reduce future wholesale power costs, saving money for all Tri-County EMC members. However, recent changes in our wholesale power agreement mean that Tri-County EMC could set peaks on weekends, bringing the potential need to operate on Saturdays and Sundays.
We have avoided the need to operate the No Sweat system this summer until now and we do not take this decision lightly. But after careful analysis, we have concluded that operation from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM today is necessary. Failure to operate the system would expose our members to tens of thousands of dollars in increased rates over the next three years. We apologize for any inconvenience and ask for your understanding.
