In recognition of Tri-County’s impressive workplace safety record, Georgia EMC presented Tri-County with the "No Lost Time" Award during its annual meeting on November 14th in Atlanta. This marks the sixth consecutive year the cooperative has received this prestigious award. "Our employees live and breathe safety every day," says Hill Bentley, CEO of Tri-County EMC. "Proactive training regimens and a safety-first attitude among workers at all levels improves morale, increases productivity and saves our cooperative member-owners money."
Prior to 1950, the work of a lineman was much more dangerous than it is today. At the time the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics ranked "lineman" as one of the 10 most dangerous jobs. With the help of technological and equipment advances and safety standards, today’s electric workers have a much safer environment.
"It’s nearly impossible to go a year without a lost-time accident," says Jim Wright, Georgia EMC’s Vice President of Training, Education & Safety. "Utilities operate at all times of the day and night, in all types of weather, and in all types of hazardous conditions. So any utility that receives this honor certainly has gone above and beyond to stress safety in the workplace." (63872-01)
Tri-County EMC is among eight cooperatives in the state that received "No Lost Time" Awards this year. It takes serious commitment from all employees to be on the constant lookout for hazards in the workplace and avoid them," says Wright. "This award recognizes the best of the best."
