Tri-County EMC Prepared for Winter Weather; Minimal Outages

JANUARY 11- GRAY, GA-  A second wave of this season’s winter weather rolled into Central Georgia in the early hours on Monday, January 10, 2011. This winter storm brought much more precipitation than we previously experienced in December and snow/ice accumulated quickly. Tri-County EMC was prepared with crews placed on-call and contractors were brought into Gray to stay Sunday and Monday night in case of widespread outages. Tri-County offices opened on schedule and employees reported to work prepared to spend their day, evening and possibly longer, in order to work an outage if necessary.

Thanks in part to less than expected ice in the trees and winds dying down by afternoon, and ongoing annual preventative line maintenance combined with right-of-way clearing, outages were minimal. Crews did respond to an outage in Gray affecting 843 meters at 10:00 a.m. yesterday, due to two broken trees. Power was restored for most of those affected within the hour and all were back online by noon. Thanks to our hard-working linemen for a job well done and to our members for their patience and understanding.

Tri-County EMC is a consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to approximately 21,500 members in Baldwin, Bibb, Jasper, Jones, Morgan, Putnam, Twiggs and Wilkinson counties. Through this statewide network, the 42 customer-owned EMCs provide electricity and related services to 3.7 million people, nearly half of Georgia's population, across 73% of the state’s land area.
